Through the Trees

New work from my gallery show this spring. Called 'What Keeps Me Up at Night', the show was a multimedia exhibition of the artwork of Haverford students organized by my collaboration community art group Make Art Happen. The show was a huge success and I received a lot of positive feedback about the impact it was sure to have on the arts at Haverford. But the college didn't respond strongly enough to our push for greater arts presence. I will be going to the University of Pennsylvania in the fall to pursue a double major in fine art and biology.

The images above will be printed into greeting cards to be sold at my Etsy shop at http://tinyurl.com/fallwoodpress. The items should be listed sometime next week.

I am stained with theories

Just got back on campus this week so I had access to my scanner again. I do have a scanner at home but it's not conveniently located under my desk.

I am dreaming of aurochs and angels...

Lots of new work to share! Most of this was completed over the past semester but I just photographed it all.

Quick sketch. Why does everything look so washed out when I take it out of photoshop?

Everything is Incandescent

More work is soon to come. This was, as I realized at 10:30 last night, homework this week. So I drew this up, as it were, fairly quickly.

Today was fairly interesting. This man came to visit our campus. He spent about 3 hours in crit. He was not overly fond of anything I had produced. This isn't entirely surprising to me being that I know I am a pretty awful painter. However, he didn't much care for any of my 'portfolio' work either. I understand I have a lot of work to accomplish. Still though, I noticed his critique was rather stylistically biased. Some of the better painters in the class did not receive much favor while the artist was positively in love with, what is in my opinion, some of the worse work thus far produced. Oh well... I suppose style is relative like that. I'm not bitter or upset about the whole affair. I am a bit nonplussed though.

But I've been feeling positively lost lately in regards to art so thats perfectly fine. Ironically his lecture was titled, in honor of Thoreau, ' The Only People Who Get Anywhere Interesting are the Ones Who Get Lost', or something along those lines. I am not getting anywhere good stumbling around like this.

And I have a really awful pain in my neck from these last few days. Bring on finals week.

The Second Week

I intended to make this blog only for work in progress, but since I didn't get pictures or scans of anything this week, here is a finished piece from two weeks ago.

The Third Night

This was done for a class assignment a few weeks ago. My teacher was more impressed with the technology than anything so I didn't get any valuable crit on it. This was all done on Painter 8.

And it never really occurred to me that people are uncomfortable with nudes. So if for some reason anyone reading this blog dislikes them, let me know. Since I am in a class focusing on painting the figure, the majority of my work is of nudes. I am so unsurprised by it now that I didnt realize some people are sensitive about these kind of images.
